3. Grow

Strengthen your professional judgement and continue developing how you approach your role, with people you can turn to when you need advice.

You’re responsible for representing your organisation, managing relationships and building positive connections with the local community.

You’ve built a strong approach.

But there are still times where it would help to talk things through with someone else.

A conversation where expectations don't align. A situation where your judgement is questioned internally. A decision where there isn’t a straightforward answer.

Most of the time, you’re relying on your own experience while balancing competing expectations.

Supporting organisational plans. Protecting your company’s reputation. Doing what's right for the local community.

You take that responsibility seriously.
You care about doing it well.

You’ve got this far on your own, but now you're looking to strengthen your approach.

You're passionate about what you do and you care about doing it well

You're passionate about what you do and you care about doing it well

You want to keep progressing and build a career you feel proud of.

You want to keep progressing and build a career you feel proud of.

But when you’re not sure you're approaching something in the right way, and there’s no one around you to properly sense-check it with...

When you’re expected to lead conversations, manage expectations and represent the business, while still working out what good looks like in practice...

When something doesn’t go as planned, and you find yourself thinking about it long after the conversation has ended...

When your point is challenged in a meeting, and you have to respond in the moment...

When you know what you want to say, but feel unsure about standing your ground because of who's in the room...

...you find yourself holding back, overthinking more than you’d like, and starting to question your approach.

Emma speaking

I know because I've been there

I’m Emma Smith, the founder of Nia Avanna. I’ve spent over a decade working in community engagement across both public and private sectors, from supporting police teams to build trust to leading engagement across more than 400 sites in one of the UK’s largest organisations.

I loved the role. I had the passion, the ideas, and the enthusiasm. I was proud of the contribution I was making.

But it also came with challenges I hadn't fully anticipated.

Although my role sat within the communications team, it cut across sustainability, operations and other areas of the business. I was working across multiple teams, each with their own priorities, with no one around me who really understood what the role involved.

I could talk things through with colleagues, but there was no one I could properly sense-check my approach with, so when it came to making decisions, I only had my own judgement to rely on.

Over time, I realised this wasn’t just happening in my organisation.

It was the nature of the role itself.

So I started thinking about what would have helped me. A space to connect with others, talk things through and see how others approach similar situations. Somewhere I could continue developing in a way that reflects what the role actually requires, and that’s exactly what you’ll find inside the Community Collective™

When you dive into the Community Collective

here's what you'll find:

01. Connection

You’re introduced to others in similar roles who want to connect with like-minded people to share ideas, build friendships, and support each other through the highs and the lows.

02. Perspective

While you might have previously always had to rely on your own judgement, you now have a place to sense-check ideas when you’re not sure how to handle something. Whether it’s stakeholder pushback, internal resistance, or a decision you’re unsure about, you can hear how others would approach it and work out your next steps with more confidence.

03. Development

If there are areas of community engagement or social value you’re less familiar with or haven’t dealt with before, you now have a place where you can develop your knowledge and ask questions so you’re not figuring it out as you go.

04. Expert input

Ready to take control and develop the skills to handle the parts of the role you might find more challenging? Through expert-led sessions, you’ll focus on areas such as influencing and gaining internal buy-in, managing difficult conversations, leadership skills, and rest and recovery.

05. Wellbeing support

Stop work becoming your main focus. Inside the membership you'll learn how to maintain boundaries and protect your wellbeing (both in and out of work) so that you can keep doing the role you love.

You don’t have to figure everything out on your own.

There is so much to gain from being around people who understand your role, hearing how they approach similar situations, whilst having access to insight and advice that helps you to keep developing in your role.

But that kind of support is not always easy to find.

If you’re leading conversations, managing expectations, building relationships and shaping decisions, while still wanting to keep learning and strengthen your approach, you're in the right place.

You just need the right space, the right support and the right people around you.

That’s exactly what you’ll get inside the Community Collective™

The Community Collective™ was created with you in mind if...

✓ You’re the only person responsible for community engagement or social value in your organisation, working across teams and managing competing priorities.

You’ve built your approach through experience, but when something new comes up or doesn’t go as expected, you don’t always have anyone to sense-check it with.

You want to understand how others would handle similar situations, what they would say and do differently, with real examples you can apply in your role.

✓ You’re confident in your thinking and make valuable suggestions to improve community relationships, deliver social value and protect the organisation’s reputation, but they are not always taken seriously or acted upon.

You’re guiding decision-making, shaping how things are approached and bringing a perspective that reflects both the organisation’s and the community’s needs, but the value of what you're suggestion isn't always recognised.

You want your input to be taken seriously and to contribute in a way that makes a difference, without having to keep justifying its importance. Having support from people in similar roles, along with guidance on how to handle these situations, would make a real difference.

✓ You’re managing situations where there isn’t always a clear way forward, and how you respond can have serious repercussions if you get it wrong.

You take the time to think things through, consider different options and weigh up what’s best for both the organisation and the community. But there is still a risk. Even when you’ve handled similar situations before, it can be hard to predict the outcome.

It would help to talk things through with someone who’s been in a similar situation, so you can sense-check your thinking, pick up on anything you might have missed, and feel confident you’re approaching it in the most considered way possible.

✓ You want to keep learning and developing, but it’s difficult to find support that reflects the realities of the role.

You’ve learnt on the job, through handling different situations, figuring things out as you go and building your approach over time. But there are aspects of the role you know you would benefit from support with, particularly when it comes to influencing and gaining internal buy-in, managing difficult conversations, leadership skills, maintaining boundaries, or areas of community engagement or social value you haven’t dealt with before.

You want to keep improving how you approach your role, building on your experience and strengthening your judgement so you can handle the full range of responsibilities and challenges it brings, with ongoing guidance, practical examples and development opportunities that reflect what the role actually involves.

✓ You give everything you’ve got at work and care about doing your job well, but it’s starting to take its toll and you know you can’t sustain this way of working forever.

You’re balancing a demanding workload, managing multiple priorities and situations that require careful thought, while also dealing with the frustration of not always being listened to or taken seriously. At times, it can feel like you’re having to fight to get your perspective heard.

When you log off for the day, you find it hard to switch off, replaying conversations and situations over and over again. It’s starting to impact your sleep, your relationships and how you show up outside of work.

You want a way of working that helps you protect your energy, manage the pressure that comes with the role and stop work from taking up more space than it should.
